Program at a Glance
Klein ISD’s ESL Program helps emergent bilingual students build strong English skills while continuing to learn grade-level content. Our goal is to make sure every student has the language tools, academic supports, and confidence they need to reach grade-level achievement and thrive in higher-level coursework.
What Students Will Experience
Students receive targeted English instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing that is tailored to their proficiency level. ESL instruction is integrated with grade-level standards so learners can access core content with appropriate language scaffolds. Teachers use sheltered instruction strategies and classroom accommodations to make content accessible while accelerating English acquisition. Newly arrived students benefit from focused newcomer and transition supports that help them adapt academically and socially.
Highlights
Klein ISD’s ESL program serves students across the continuum of English language development, from beginning to advanced. Instruction in all academic subjects is provided by teachers trained to make grade-level learning understandable and engaging while strengthening English skills. The program helps students become confident communicators, readers, and writers prepared for success in school and beyond.
Benefits & Educational Outcomes
All students in the ESL program participate in the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) each year. TELPAS measures progress in listening, speaking, reading, and writing and gives teachers the data they need to monitor growth, celebrate language development, and ensure steady progress toward full English proficiency and academic success. Overall, the program equips students with the language, learning strategies, and confidence required to meet grade-level expectations and advance to higher-level coursework.
Placement & Progress Monitoring
Students are served based on their language proficiency and receive instruction and supports matched to their needs. Progress is closely monitored so educators can adjust instruction, celebrate milestones, and ensure each student stays on track toward English proficiency and grade-level achievement.
