The Fashion Design Program introduces students to the creative, technical, and professional aspects of the fashion industry. Through hands-on design projects, garment construction, and digital media skills, students learn how clothing is conceptualized, designed, and produced. This pathway is ideal for students interested in fashion design, apparel construction, costume design, merchandising, or pursuing careers in the broader arts and creative industries.

Highlights

Students begin at the Pre-Level in Digital Design Media Production, where they learn essential digital tools and visual communication skills that support creative work. In high school, they move into Fashion Design I, gaining foundational knowledge in textiles, patternmaking, sewing techniques, and fashion illustration. As they advance to Fashion Design II and Fashion Design III/Lab, students design original garments, explore advanced construction methods, and learn to develop cohesive design collections that reflect artistic vision and technical skill.

The capstone experience, Practicum in Fashion Design, allows students to work in a professional studio environment, build a portfolio, and refine advanced construction and presentation skills. During this time, students prepare for the Adobe Certified Professional in Graphic Design and Illustration Using Adobe Illustrator, an industry-based certification that enhances their digital design and technical capabilities. Students who complete the Pre-Level course may also receive CCMR credit and qualify for Level 3 exam exemptions.

Benefits & Educational Outcomes

Students gain a strong foundation in garment construction, creative design, textile science, digital illustration, and visual presentation. They develop problem-solving abilities, artistic expression, and attention to detail—key skills for success in fashion-related careers. The program prepares students for college majors in fashion design, merchandising, costume design, or visual arts, and equips them with professional portfolio pieces that strengthen college applications. With CCMR credit, industry-recognized certification, and extensive hands-on practice, students leave the pathway ready for entry-level roles in fashion production, retail, design studios, or continued education in creative arts and apparel design.
