Program at a Glance
The Health Science Clinical Program prepares students for direct patient care roles by giving them hands-on experience in medical settings and a deep understanding of human health, clinical procedures, and healthcare professionalism. This rigorous pathway is designed for students who are passionate about caring for others and want to explore careers in nursing, medical assisting, clinical technology, or other allied health professions. Students gain both the scientific foundation and real-world clinical practice needed for success in postsecondary health programs.
Highlights
Students begin with Principles of Health Science and Medical Terminology, which introduce essential medical vocabulary, healthcare systems, and the basics of anatomy and physiology. At Level 3, students take Health Science Theory, where they refine their knowledge of health conditions, patient care practices, and safety procedures while earning CPR (BLS) Certification.
The capstone of the pathway is the Practicum in Health Science – Clinical, where students participate in hands-on clinical rotations and develop competencies in patient care, vital signs, medical office skills, and healthcare communication. Throughout the program, students also complete Anatomy & Physiology or its dual credit option through Lone Star College, giving them a foundational understanding of body systems that supports more advanced clinical training. Students completing the practicum earn the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential, a key industry certification that opens doors to immediate entry-level opportunities in healthcare.
Benefits & Educational Outcomes
Students graduate with strong clinical skills, a deep understanding of human biology, and firsthand experience working in healthcare environments. They learn professionalism, communication, patient empathy, and technical skills that prepare them for roles in clinics, hospitals, and medical offices. With CCMR credit and the ability to earn an industry-recognized CMA certification, students leave the program well-prepared for employment, further technical training, or college programs in nursing, medical assisting, allied health, or pre-medical studies. The program gives students a strong competitive advantage as they enter the healthcare field with both clinical experience and professional credentials.
