Program at a Glance
The Exercise Science & Wellness Program provides students with a strong foundation in human movement, physical fitness, and the science of health and performance. Students explore how the body functions during exercise, how to design effective training programs, and how wellness practices contribute to lifelong health. This pathway is ideal for students interested in careers such as personal training, physical therapy, sports medicine, coaching, kinesiology, or other health and fitness professions.
Highlights
The program begins with Principles of Exercise Science & Wellness in 8th or 9th grade, introducing students to human anatomy, movement principles, nutrition, and basic fitness concepts. In Level 2, students take Kinesiology I, gaining a deeper understanding of biomechanics, exercise technique, and the physiological responses to movement. Level 3 expands this learning through Kinesiology II, where students study advanced training methods, athletic conditioning, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
The capstone experience, Exercise Science & Wellness Capstone, allows students to apply what they’ve learned by designing training programs, analyzing performance data, and preparing for the Certified Personal Trainer Certification, a valuable credential for students interested in fitness and health careers. Throughout the pathway, students also take Anatomy & Physiology or its dual credit equivalent, strengthening their understanding of how body systems support performance and wellness. This program is offered exclusively at Klein Collins and Klein Cain High Schools.
Benefits & Educational Outcomes
Students graduate with a strong understanding of exercise science principles, human performance, and wellness strategies that support healthy lifestyles. They develop skills in fitness assessment, program design, injury prevention, and client communication—key competencies for careers in the health and fitness industry. With opportunities to earn an industry-recognized certification and CCMR credit, students are well-prepared for roles in personal training, athletic performance, coaching, or continued studies in kinesiology, sports medicine, or allied health fields. The program equips students with both scientific knowledge and practical experience that benefits them in college, career, and lifelong personal wellness.
