The News Media Production Program immerses students in the fast-paced world of journalism, media creation, and digital storytelling. Students learn how to research, write, film, edit, and publish content across multiple platforms while developing strong communication and technical production skills. This pathway is ideal for students interested in journalism, broadcasting, media production, communications, photography, or careers that rely on strong storytelling and content creation abilities.
Highlights
Students may enter through Journalism 1 or Photojournalism, where they learn foundational skills in reporting, interviewing, photography, and media ethics. As they advance into News Media 1, students produce written and digital content for school publications and begin developing personal beats and coverage areas. In News Media 2, students take on more advanced production roles, refine their editing and layout skills, and contribute to multimedia projects that reflect real newsroom expectations.
The capstone course, News Media 3, places students in leadership and editorial roles where they manage publication workflows, mentor junior staff, and oversee the creation of professional-level journalistic content. Students may also choose Independent Study of Journalism, providing additional opportunities to specialize in editorial leadership, investigative reporting, broadcast media, or photojournalism. The program emphasizes meeting real deadlines, producing authentic content, and developing the professional habits required in media careers.
