Program at a Glance
The Law & Public Service Program prepares students for careers centered around law enforcement, criminal justice, forensics, and public safety. Through a blend of classroom study and hands-on investigative experiences, students learn how the legal system operates, how to analyze evidence, and how professionals work to maintain safety and uphold the law. This pathway is ideal for students interested in pursuing roles such as police officers, forensic technicians, lawyers, correctional officers, security professionals, or other public service careers.
Highlights
Students begin with Principles of Law & Public Service, gaining foundational knowledge of criminal justice, legal systems, and the roles of public safety agencies. In Level 2, they move into Law Enforcement, where they study policing practices, crime prevention, ethics, and emergency response. At Level 3, students advance to Criminal Investigations, developing skills in crime scene investigation, evidence collection, and forensic analysis. The capstone Practicum in Law & Public Service allows students to apply these skills in real or simulated environments, participating in investigative scenarios and justice-oriented training.
Throughout the pathway, students have the opportunity to earn the Non-Commissioned Security Officer Level 2 Certification, along with other attainable credentials that support careers in security, law enforcement, and corrections. Students may also expand their learning through courses such as Correctional Services (including dual credit options), Forensic Science, or Forensic Psychology, giving them flexibility to explore specialized areas within the justice system.
Benefits & Educational Outcomes
Students graduate with strong critical thinking, communication, and investigative skills that prepare them for a wide range of law and public safety careers. They learn professionalism, ethics, and decision-making under pressure—competencies that are essential in criminal justice and emergency response fields. With options to earn industry certifications and CCMR credit, students leave the program equipped for entry-level employment, advanced training, or continued study in criminal justice, criminology, psychology, forensics, or other public service professions. The program builds confidence, career readiness, and a clear understanding of how justice systems protect and serve communities.
