Program at a Glance
The HVAC & Refrigeration Technology Program prepares students to install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems used in residential and commercial environments. Through hands-on training and applied technical coursework, students learn how temperature control, refrigeration cycles, and electrical systems work together to support indoor comfort and air quality. This pathway is ideal for students interested in entering a high-demand skilled trade with strong career growth and opportunities for apprenticeships, technical certifications, and immediate workforce entry.
Highlights
Students begin with Principles of HVAC, where they learn foundational concepts in thermodynamics, system components, and safe tool operation. As they progress into HVAC Technology I and HVAC Technology II, they develop advanced skills in system installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, electrical wiring, refrigeration cycles, and maintenance procedures. During Level 3, students prepare for multiple industry-recognized outcomes, including the HBI Core & Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) and EPA 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification, both essential credentials in the HVAC field.
In their senior year, students complete Practicum in HVAC or may pursue Career Preparation, gaining real-world experience in field service, equipment repair, and customer interaction. This program is exclusively offered at Klein Cain High School, giving students access to specialized equipment and lab environments designed to simulate professional HVAC workplaces.
