The Healthcare Diagnostics Program prepares students to perform laboratory and clinical testing used to help diagnose, monitor, and treat medical conditions. Students gain hands-on experience with medical equipment, specimen collection, and diagnostic procedures while building a strong foundation in human anatomy, physiology, and healthcare communication. This pathway is ideal for students interested in careers such as phlebotomy, EKG technology, medical laboratory science, or other diagnostic and clinical support roles within the healthcare system.
Highlights
The program begins with Principles of Health Science and Medical Terminology, which introduce essential medical vocabulary, body systems, and healthcare environments. In Level 3, students take Health Science Theory, deepening their understanding of disease processes, patient assessment, and clinical safety while earning CPR (BLS) Certification.
The capstone experience is the Practicum in Health Science – Diagnostics, where students participate in hands-on clinical experiences and perform real diagnostic tasks such as specimen collection, phlebotomy procedures, and EKG testing. Students in this practicum prepare for two key industry-recognized credentials: Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified EKG Technician, both of which support strong entry-level employment opportunities in diagnostic healthcare fields. Students also complete Anatomy & Physiology or its dual credit equivalent through Lone Star College, reinforcing the scientific concepts underlying diagnostic procedures.
