Program at a Glance
The Environmental & Natural Resources Program provides students with a scientific and hands-on understanding of ecosystems, wildlife, conservation practices, and sustainable resource management. Through field-based learning and applied environmental science coursework, students explore how natural systems function and how humans can protect, restore, and responsibly manage natural resources. This pathway is ideal for students interested in wildlife biology, environmental science, conservation, ecology, or related careers in natural resource management.
Highlights
Students begin with Principles of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources, gaining foundational knowledge of environmental systems and agricultural connections. They progress to Wildlife, Fisheries & Ecology Management, where they study habitats, population dynamics, and conservation principles, while also earning opportunities for Hunter Safety or Boater Education credentials.
In Level 3, students take Energy & Natural Resources, exploring energy production, sustainability, and environmental impact while preparing for the Ducks Unlimited Ecology Conservation & Management Certification. The senior year offers two capstone options: Scientific Research & Design in Natural Resources, where students conduct environmental investigations and applied research, or Career Preparation, which provides workplace-based experience in environmental or agricultural settings.
Benefits & Educational Outcomes
Students develop strong scientific investigation skills, environmental literacy, and an understanding of ecological relationships that guide responsible natural resource management. They gain experience analyzing environmental data, designing conservation strategies, and understanding regulatory and stewardship practices. With industry-recognized certifications and CCMR credit, students graduate prepared for environmental science programs, wildlife and fisheries degrees, conservation careers, or technical roles supporting park services, environmental agencies, and natural resource organizations. The program builds a deep appreciation for ecological systems and prepares students to pursue careers focused on sustainability and environmental protection.
