Program at a Glance
Klein ISD’s 6th Grade Dual Language Immersion program helps students continue growing as bilingual and biliterate learners through high-quality instruction in both English and Spanish. The program builds on students’ elementary DLI experience and creates a clear pathway to secondary Spanish coursework — including the chance to earn high-school Spanish credit and to pursue AP Spanish in later grades. It’s a celebration of students’ bilingual journey and a pathway to becoming global leaders.
Program Highlights & Accolades
High levels of bilingualism & biliteracy. Students strengthen academic Spanish and English across the curriculum.
A bridge to secondary Spanish. The program transitions students from elementary DLI into middle and high school Spanish pathways — preparing students for Spanish 2 (Advanced) in 7th grade and for Spanish 3 or AP Spanish in later grades.
Supports the Texas Seal of Biliteracy. The program cultivates the advanced language skills needed to pursue state biliteracy recognition.
Academic confidence. Participation promotes confidence in two languages, preparing students for global opportunities.
Benefits & Educational Outcomes
Second chance for high-school credit. Students who did not earn Spanish 1 high-school credit at the end of 5th grade have a second opportunity to demonstrate their language proficiency at the end of 6th grade. This assessment measures growth in academic Spanish and biliteracy and ensures students are placed in the most appropriate pathway for advanced Spanish coursework in middle school and beyond.
Accelerated Spanish pathway. Successful students are positioned to take more advanced Spanish coursework earlier in secondary school — accelerating their path to AP coursework and college-ready language skills.
Stronger academic performance. The program supports grade-level achievement while developing higher-order thinking, reading, writing, and problem-solving in two languages.
