Program at a Glance
The Cosmetology & Barbering Program provides students with comprehensive training in hair, skin, and nail services while preparing them for state licensure in either cosmetology or barbering. Throughout this multi-year pathway, students build the technical, creative, and professional skills needed to work in the beauty and grooming industries. This program is ideal for students who want to become licensed cosmetologists, barbers, salon professionals, or entrepreneurs in the beauty and personal care fields.
Highlights
Students begin the pathway with foundational business and communication skills before moving into the specialized coursework that defines this program. They advance to Cosmetology & Barbering I/Lab, where they develop core competencies in haircutting, hairstyling, chemical services, nail care, skin care, and sanitation procedures. In their senior year, students complete Cosmetology II/Lab or Barbering II/Lab, depending on their chosen track, while simultaneously studying Microbiology & Safety for Cosmetology Careers to reinforce safety, infection control, and professional standards required by state licensing exams.
Throughout the program, students accumulate the required training hours and hands-on practice needed to sit for the Texas Cosmetology Operator License or Barber Operator License. These state-recognized credentials open the door to immediate employment opportunities in salons, barbershops, spas, and independent service environments.
Benefits & Educational Outcomes
Students graduate with the technical expertise, creativity, and professional readiness needed to succeed in cosmetology and barbering careers. They develop strong client service skills, learn to manage tools and equipment safely, and gain experience working with real clients in a supervised setting. Upon meeting state requirements, students are eligible to earn licensure, enabling them to enter the workforce immediately after high school. In addition to CCMR credit, students leave the program with a strong portfolio, industry experience, and the entrepreneurial skills needed to pursue careers in hair design, barbering, esthetics, nail technology, or salon ownership.
