The Biomedical Sciences Program provides students with a deep, science-driven foundation in human anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and laboratory practices. This academically rigorous pathway prepares students for future studies in medicine, nursing, biomedical research, medical laboratory science, and other health-related professions. Students explore how the human body functions, how diseases develop, and how healthcare professionals analyze, diagnose, and prevent illness.

Highlights

The program begins with Principles of Health Science and Medical Terminology, where students build essential healthcare vocabulary and gain an understanding of the body’s systems. As students advance, they take Anatomy & Physiology (with a dual credit option through Lone Star College), giving them a college-level introduction to structure and function of the human body. In the upper levels, students deepen their scientific knowledge through Pathophysiology and Medical Microbiology (including dual credit options), where they study disease mechanisms, microbial organisms, and laboratory processes used in diagnostic and clinical settings. This sequence emphasizes scientific rigor, lab-based inquiry, and real-world application of biomedical concepts.

Benefits & Educational Outcomes

Students develop strong analytical skills, scientific reasoning, and an understanding of complex biological systems. They gain experience with laboratory techniques, critical reading of scientific information, and the application of biomedical knowledge to real health scenarios. This program supports students who plan to enter competitive college majors such as biology, pre-med, nursing, medical laboratory science, biotechnology, and other health science pathways. With a strong STEM emphasis, students graduate with advanced scientific preparation that strengthens their readiness for college-level coursework and future healthcare careers.
