College Program, Career & Technical Education (CTE)

The Automotive Technology College Program provides students with advanced training in modern automotive systems through a dual credit experience that mirrors real industry expectations. Students learn how to diagnose, service, and repair today’s sophisticated vehicles while earning college credit through the Lone Star College System. This pathway prepares students for immediate entry into the automotive workforce, further technical training, or postsecondary programs in automotive service, diesel technology, or transportation-related engineering fields.

Highlights

Students begin with Automotive Basics, which introduces fundamental safety, tools, and mechanical concepts. At Level 2, students enroll directly in Automotive Technology I Dual Credit, where they study engine systems, electrical components, brakes, steering, and suspension while earning college hours through Lone Star College. In Level 3, students advance to Automotive Technology II Dual Credit, gaining deeper expertise in diagnostics, powertrains, drivability concerns, electronic systems, and advanced repair operations.

By senior year, students enter the Practicum in Automotive Technology or may participate in a career preparation experience that provides hands-on training in an automotive shop environment. Throughout the sequence, students prepare for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Entry-Level Certification, an industry-recognized credential that verifies technical competency and employability skills.

Benefits & Educational Outcomes

Students leave the program with a strong understanding of automotive systems, diagnostic procedures, and repair techniques used in professional service centers. The dual credit structure gives students a significant head start toward an automotive certificate or associate degree, reducing both time and cost in college. Graduates are prepared for entry-level technician roles, dealership service positions, or apprenticeships, and they gain the problem-solving, mechanical reasoning, and technical communication skills essential for success in the transportation industry. With industry certification opportunities and CCMR credit, students graduate with credentials that strengthen their readiness for both immediate employment and continued technical education.
