Program at a Glance
The Construction Technology Program prepares students with the hands-on skills and technical knowledge needed to work in residential and commercial construction fields. Through progressive coursework and advanced lab experiences, students learn how structures are built from the ground up, gaining expertise in carpentry, framing, tool operation, and construction safety. This pathway is ideal for students interested in entering the construction trades, pursuing apprenticeships, or exploring future careers in construction management, architecture, or related technical industries.
Highlights
Students begin with Principles of Construction, where they learn safety procedures, construction terminology, and the basics of hand and power tool use. In Construction Technology I, students gain practical experience in framing, carpentry, and building systems while developing craftsmanship and precision. As they move into Construction Technology II, students advance their skills through more complex construction tasks and prepare for industry expectations. During this level, they also work toward the HBI Core & Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) in Basic Carpentry, a nationally recognized credential.
The capstone experience is the Practicum in Construction Technology, where students apply their skills in real-world or simulated jobsite environments. This practicum allows them to demonstrate expertise in project planning, construction techniques, and workplace readiness. The program is currently offered exclusively at Klein Forest High School.
Benefits & Educational Outcomes
Students graduate with a solid understanding of construction practices, jobsite safety, carpentry skills, and building system fundamentals. They develop strong problem-solving abilities and hands-on proficiency that prepares them for immediate entry into the construction workforce or related technical training programs. The program supports pathways into skilled trades, apprenticeships, and postsecondary construction or architecture programs. With CCMR credit and nationally recognized certification opportunities, students gain valuable credentials that enhance employability and provide a strong foundation for long-term career success in the construction and building industries.
